Tucked just off the street in the heart of Tallahassee's Midtown, is Haute Headz Salon Salon. It is an oasis of a place, housed in a spanish mission style building. The stucco is painted olive green with splashes of turquoise. The roof is topped with the traditional barrel tile, encrusted mosaic jewels adorn the front entrance and no architectural detail is spared. Lush tropical foliage that surrounds the salon further transcends its guests into a welcome respite from the hurried pace that screeches by just footsteps behind. Open the door and business is bustling. The slick operation performs like a well oiled machine, and it's no wonder... Nikki Parrish and Monique Wood are the masterminds behind this brainchild.

They've been honing their craft since the early eighties where they met and worked for the same salon. In 1990 they collaborated and opened Haute Headz at its first location near the FSU campus on the west side of town. Where Nikki is hands on and “all-about-the-hair”, Monique is the people person, they both however, are strictly business. Nikki, whose infectious giggle can be heard throughout the salon, spends her day clipping away at a quick pace at her corner station. She moves from client to client with the precision of a fine swiss timepiece, she doesn't miss a beat. Monique, on the other hand, who's eye's can sparkle a thousand “feel-good” stories and a smile that can make even the worst day better, handles staff and client challenges with ease. When not at the salon, the two have a jam packed itinerary city skipping from L.A. to Vegas, Atlanta to Miami and most points in between in search of the most “up to the minute” courses of continuing education. As a result, Haute Headz is always THE standard for fashion in Tallahassee.

Enter Haute Headz and prepare to be enveloped by its aura. It's décor is “Matisse goes to Marakkech.” Friendly front desk staffers will offer you a Starbucks while you work on your laptop, or shop the collection of sophisticated boho chic accessories. Dull rhythmic bass pulses out an undercurrent of energy that sets the tempo as ultra-hip, super-trained stylists coiff away. This is no ordinary salon, it is the perfect harmony of tattoos and alligator shirts...a cultural melting pot where the very best is always brought to the table.
